How to Decorate a Teenage Girls Room

Teenage girls tend to be choosy and finicky when it comes to just about everything and this includes their preferences for the design of their bedrooms. Gone are the days when decorating a girl's bedroom involves painting the walls pink, simply getting them a mermaid girls bedding collection and getting all the furniture and accessories in various shades of the same color.

I remember the time when I visited my 15-year old cousin in Texas. She is a high school cheerleader who looks just like Elle Woods in Legally Blonde. I expected her bedroom to be in all shades of pink and dainty girls bedding sets. Instead, I entered a modern bedroom that looks just like one of those fashionable rooms used for Vogue photo shoots. If you don't have any idea how to decorate a girl's room for a teenager, you might want to keep these design tips in mind.

First, it's all about the color. As I've said, pretty-in-pink themes are so dated. Pink bedrooms with Tara Stripe queen quilt can be fashionable and the key there is to use a more grown-up shade of pink. But I suspect that your teenage girl may have other colors in mind. Eye-popping colors such as tangerine and turquoise have been seen on lots of celebrity teens' bedrooms already. Chances are, she might be willing to play with bolder shades such as red.

Second, choose a beautiful bed. None of those old bunks that they used to sleep on when they were little kids. Teenage girls are already dreaming of having huge movie-star beds with princess twin quilt and pillow sham with gilded headboards and gorgeous canopies. Now if you don't have a movie-star budget and you can't possibly afford a bed like that, it's wise to buy one with classic and clean lines, which won't go out of style. Given the fact that teenagers change their minds all the time, this is a great investment. Simple but beautiful beds can be adorned with a different look using bed sheets and paint. This would come in handy whenever your daughter tells you that she wants a new bed.

Third, buy the right furniture. A big, vanity table like the Time to Read vanity table and chair set is an absolute necessity, one that can store all their makeup, perfumes and other items. Do not buy that old-fashioned Victorian-style vanity. Lots of teenage girls now prefer those vanity mirrors and tables that they see on the backstage of Victoria's Secret fashion shows. For these girls, the bigger the mirror, the better. Also, invest on a sturdy working desk like a fairy ballerinas queen quilt set where she could place her laptop. Again, it's wise to choose one with clean lines, which can withstand her ever-changing tastes.

Finally, invest in storage. Teenagers seem to have truckloads of stuff, and it is common knowledge that not all of them are neat freaks. A quick solution for a messy room is to buy lots of storage. But do not forget space furnishings like the princess table and two chair set.  You could get some candy-colored storage bins and drawers with wheels on them.

Truly, teenage girls today are getting more fashionable and sophisticated and this translates to their bedroom tastes. Remember these tips and you would surely make your girls happy.
